Why Twitter and How It Turned Potti
The Potti Team Blog

This transformation did not happen overnight. As you may have gathered, I did not choose Twitter to follow celebrities or
politicians. Only for my vintage jewelry
business would I sink to such depths!
Even then, I tried other avenues first.

Since I sell on
Etsy, my next step was to join an Etsy promotional team. I choose one that was exclusively for vintage
jewelry. This was a much wiser move. I needed to learn more about vintage jewelry
and about promoting sales, and I did both.
I profited from the team in many ways, and one thing I learned was that
I needed to give Twitter a try.

I was terrified that
I was going to do something very awkward and very public on Twitter, and I did
make mistakes. In retrospect, I realize
they were tiny matters, but at the time, they seemed huge! I needed a couple of months to settle down,
but as I did, I began to discover something.
I
realized that the Twitter platform, and the kind people that I was beginning to
meet, allowed me to feel uninhibited in a way that only an introvert can
appreciate. I realized that Twitter was
actually fun!
I found followers much easier to gain on
Twitter than Facebook, and it actually increased my sales, which was my goal
after all! I enjoyed the quick, friendly
exchanges that took place on Twitter, and the fact that thank you, a returned
favor, or a kind word was appreciated. I
found this to be characteristic of many on Twitter. I found it to be especially true of the
circle of friends that I was beginning to know.

One person
recognized special potential in this circle of friends, for those of us who
also sold on Etsy. She convinced
another, and the Potti Team was conceived.
Gathered from friends in what many of us already considered a happy
place, the Pals On Twitter Treasury Ingroup Team has amplified the friendship,
the kindness and appreciation, and the support we shared as merely Twitter
pals, and harnessed it into something even more productive, even more
supportive, and for many of us, even more fun!

Thanks to the
insight of our leader Debra and our Captain Jesse, we have the best of Twitter
and Etsy in a streamlined, efficient manner.
They encourage growth and learning within this context, sharing their
knowledge and expertise as we grow as a team, and selectively adding members
whose vision and work ethic seem in sync with our own.

It was a fun read!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! You deserve one (or two...) :)
DeleteGreat story!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Char - it is "our" story!! :)
DeleteHa this brings back memories. Twitter scared the life out of me. I thought one tweet a day was enough and too many of them would be me making a nuisance of myself and imposing on others. Took me awhile to understand that one tweet a day would be seen by a handful. Michele, when you have another baby, I'll be there to retweet. A great read and with the help of the Potti Team I am looking forward to more followers on Twitter :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Caryl - "when" I have another baby, at my age, it will be scandalous!! :) It might earn us some more followers! I appreciate you standing by me, and retweets are always welcome...
DeleteWonderful Read, with some awesome information and pointers for the newbie on Twitter... Our team has come along way since the beginning and adding you (Michele) to the leadership has increased our vision to reach out more ways and promote our team and our shops... :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jesse - you and Debra laid some awesome groundwork, and we are all reaping the benefits! It is a joy to serve on your team. :)
DeleteGreat article! Love it!
ReplyDeleteJen - you are always encouraging! <3 Thanks!
DeleteI have widened my outlook on twitter by including friends I never would have imagined. By doing so, tho I retweet some things people don't like at times, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I had one person stop following me because I rted a person who sold old ivory from Germany before the ban was put into place and did let me know in no uncertain terms that she was unfollowing me because of it. I just sent her a polite message and wished her a happy day. My German friend's father made these carvings, so one hardens to the comments that are not approved by everyone. Point being, your name does get around. People look out of curosity. Friends who quit come back and new friends are added everyy day. Twitter on!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat article, Michele!
Vera-Wishie, you will always be authentic! That is one of the many things that I, and others, love about you! You cannot please everyone all of the time - no one can. As to the old ivory, it began from discarded tusks, and only when men became greedy did it become the horrific practice that led to the ban. Those old items are beautiful. Even the concept of making something beautiful from something discarded seems lovely to me. You will always have Twitter friends, my dear, as long as Twitter stands!! And you will always have Potti friends!!
DeleteWonderful article - informative to new and old on the Potti Team. Never thought I would be on Twitter either. No matter where you are there are always people that don't like what you are doing. That is life. But we have a fantastic team! SO hip-hip-hurray for Michele Jesse, Debra and all my teammies!!!!! Love the chuckle at the end of the article too. Thanks again Michele and I guess I have to watch the Inquirer first - hehe.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vallee! :) And oh yes, inquiring minds want to know!! (Scandalous grandmother of three... :) Hip hip hurray for you, too!!
DeleteTotally agree with Jesse! We have an awesome team! So proud to be a part of it!
ReplyDeleteMe too, Joyce! I couldn't ask for more than to be part of your team!!
DeleteWhat a delightful article, Michele. Many of my feelings and fears about starting twitter were much the same in the beginning. It took me awhile to convince myself to give it a try, and I love it now, not nearly as much as I love being a member of potti team though! Great blog, Michele.
ReplyDeleteWonderful article, well written & informative! Love it and looking forward for the next one!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Panos! I enjoy your sunny encouragement so much!!
DeleteHa! Michele Loved the Laugh at the end!!! I don't know what it is about Twitter, but I Love it! And Love you all too! HUGE Thanks to Michele, Debra and Jesse for coming up with this GREAT IDEA!
